Genius Sports is a leading sports data business that uses innovative digital technologies and data, to connect with sports fans in new ways and bring the excitement of live sport into the future. Their credentials include supplying sports data to Coca-cola to providing the Premier League with semi-automated offside technology.

I worked collaboratively with a multidisciplinary creative team and the client to workshop and develop the core creative idea – “Built on Genius”. This idea illustrates how modern sports are "built" on the foundation of technology and data from Genius Sports. I developed a dynamic collage style for the visuals – fresh, distinctive, one that comes alive in motion or through interactivity. This approach allowed for versatility in storytelling, tailored to engage different audiences. The goal was to highlight how every moment in sports – from a stunning three-pointer to a last-minute save – can be captured, analysed, and shared through Genius Sports’ data and technology, creating new experiences for fans, exciting opportunities for brands, and valuable insights for players and teams.

I then worked closely with a video production studio to help bring the campaign to life in an energetic film – developing the storyboards, working with costume suppliers and supporting the director on set to ensure the film met expectations over an intense one day shoot. I created the data visualisation woven throughout the final film and worked with the editing team to get the final result – a brand film that captures the blood, sweat and data involved in being a sports fan in 2024.

Results

The film – to quote – “went down a storm” with the Genius team. The client was delighted with the graphic approach and called out the way the campaign idea aligned perfectly with its vision: to be everywhere in sports, redefining experiences through technology.
